Police responded to reports of a vehicle on the wrong side of the road that was facing oncoming traffic. The vehicle was on and the ignition was running, according to police.

The vehicle’s occupant, Barry Mamadou of the Bronx, appeared to be sleeping in the driver’s seat, and police noticed a distinct scent of alcohol.

Mamadou denied that he was sleeping and instead stated that he had been pulled over by Greenwich Police, police said. He also denied being on the wrong side of the road despite the fact that the double yellow line was on the right side of his vehicle, according to police.

Mamadou did not comply when officers asked him to step out of his vehicle and had to be forcibly removed before being placed under arrest and taken into custody, police said.

He faces the following charges:

  • Operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs
  • Failure to drive on the right side of the road
  • Interfering with an officer/resisting arrest

Mamadou was released upon posting $500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
